چکیده

as a supplement to the oral method has been pointed out by many workers. Moreover, the possibility of error in the result of oral method due to diminished absorption has been shown by Beeler, Bryan, Cathcart and Fitz (1922). The flat blood sugar curve obtained by Thaysen (1929) after the oral administration of glucose, as has been shown by the author, is due to the diminished absorption of glucose. AVe have observed in some of our investigations that oral administration of glucose even up to 100 gm. may have little or no effect on the blood sugar curve for a period of 2 hours. Nausea,. sometimes caused by oral administration of glucose, alters the result of the test as has been shown by Hale-White and Payne (1926). In view of the above facts we decided to study

Effect of thyroidectomy and food intake on oral and intravenous glucose tolerances in rats.

I N A PREVIOUS STUDY of the effect of thyroidectomy on oral glucose tolerance, interpretation of the findings was complicated by the marked difference in size between thyroidectomized and normal control rats (I). It was demonstrated that age had a pronounced effect on the rate of intestinal absorption of glucose, but it was not ascertained if this was a direct effect of age or secondary to its ...

Intravenous Glucose Tolerance Test and Glucose Kinetic Parameters in Rabbits

The purpose of this study was to determine the normal range and test variability for intravenous glucose tolerance test (IVGTT) in rabbits. Fifty one clinically healthy New Zealand white rabbits of both sexes (31 female and 20 male), 3.5−4 months of age and weighing 2.8 to 3.7 kg were used. The IVGTT was performed after an overnight fasting period of 12 h by intravenous injection of 40% glucose...

Background: To determine the incidence of an abnormal glucose tolerance test in patients with recurrent spontaneous abortion and whether metformin would safely reduce the rate of first trimester spontaneous abortions in patients without polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) as well as with PCOS and an abnormal glucose tolerance test. Materials and Methods: Patients with a history of recurrent sponta...

Effect of Intravenous Glucose Tolerance Test on Bone Turnover Markers in Adults with Normal Glucose Tolerance

BACKGROUND It is well known that enteral nutrients result in acute suppression of bone turnover markers (BTMs), and incretin hormones are believed to play a significant role in this physiological skeletal response. However, there is limited research exploring the impact of parenteral nutrients on BTMs. Our aim was to assess the influence of intravenous glucose on BTMs in adults with normal gluc...

Diminished Insulin Secretory Response to Glucose but Normal Insulin and Glucagon Secretory Responses to Arginine in a Family With Maternally Inherited Diabetes and Deafness Caused by Mitochondrial tRNA Gene Mutation

RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS — The function of aand b-cells was assessed in all five siblings carrying the mitochondrial tRNA Leu(UUR) gene mutation at position 3243 and compared with six sex-, age-, and weight-matched control subjects. Insulin and C-peptide responses were evaluated by intravenous glucagon application, intravenous arginine stimulation test, and intravenous glucose tolerance test...
